Annaba, between history and the sea
Annaba, on the coast near the Tunisian border, is one of Algeria's largest cities. It grew next to Hippo Regius, the ancient city where Saint Augustine was bishop: the ruins and their museum lie at the foot of the hill crowned by the Basilica of Saint Augustine, which overlooks the city and the gulf.
In the centre, the Cours de la Révolution, a wide promenade lined with cafés and arcades, leads towards the old town and the port. Above the city, the road climbs through the forests of the Edough massif to Seraïdi and its viewpoint over the coast.
