Blida, the city of roses

Blida, about fifty kilometres south-west of Algiers at the foot of the Blida Atlas, is nicknamed 'the city of roses'. It spreads along the edge of the Mitidja plain and its orange groves.

Above the town, Chréa National Park and its cedars draw families all year round, with snow in winter. To the west, the Chiffa gorges and the Ruisseau des Singes, home to Barbary macaques, are a classic day out from Algiers.

Where to stay in Blida

City-centre hotels suit business trips, family visits and stopovers on the way south; Chréa is about half an hour away by mountain road.

On snowy weekends the Chréa road is very busy: set off early and check road conditions.
