"Pour le meilleur et pour le prix !"
Mostaganem, the beach town of the west
Mostaganem, on the west coast about 80 km from Oran, is one of the favourite beach destinations of Algerian families. Its beaches, from Les Sablettes to La Salamandre, fill up from June, and the seafront comes alive in the evening.
The town also has a real cultural life: the old Tigditt quarter, the zaouia and mausoleum of Sidi Lakhdar Benkhlouf, and the national amateur theatre festival, one of the oldest festivals in the country.
Where to stay in Mostaganem
The town centre and the seafront are best for getting around on foot; hotels and residences near Les Sablettes and La Salamandre beaches are the most in demand in summer. The tramway links the centre with the other districts.
In July and August seafront hotels are often full: book several weeks ahead, or aim for June and September, when the sea is still warm and prices are lower.
