Where to stay: Yasmine, Hammamet North or the medina
Hammamet, on the southern side of the Cap Bon peninsula about an hour's drive from Tunis, is Tunisia's best-known beach resort, with long sandy beaches and large hotels set right on the sand.
Yasmine Hammamet, to the south, is newer and livelier, with a marina, a recreated medina, the Carthage Land theme park and many four- and five-star resorts. Hammamet North and the town centre are older and greener, with garden hotels near the walled medina and its seafront kasbah.
Nabeul, about 10 km north, has similar beaches and is often a little cheaper.
Which Hammamet hotel is right for you?
Families: most big Yasmine Hammamet resorts offer all-inclusive packages with pools and entertainment; hotels with an aquapark or water slides usually fill up first in July and August.
Couples and quieter stays: smaller garden hotels in Hammamet North, near the medina's lanes and cafés.
Spa breaks: Tunisia is known for thalassotherapy (seawater spa treatments), and many Hammamet hotels have their own thalasso centre.
Every offer shows the board basis (all-inclusive, half board or room only) before you book.
When to go and how to get to Hammamet
June to September is beach season, July and August the hottest and busiest. May and October are milder and quieter, good for sightseeing and spa stays.
By air: Enfidha–Hammamet airport, about 40 km south-west, handles many holiday flights from Europe, mostly in season. Tunis–Carthage, about an hour away, has flights all year, including from Algiers (around an hour and a half).
By road from Algeria: cross at one of the eastern border posts, such as Oum Teboul, then continue via Tunis on the motorway to Hammamet. Bring your passport, vehicle documents and insurance valid in Tunisia.

Frequently asked questions
Which airport is closest to Hammamet?
Enfidha–Hammamet airport, about 40 km south-west of the resort, mainly used by seasonal holiday flights. Tunis–Carthage airport is about an hour's drive away and has flights all year round.
Should I stay in Yasmine Hammamet or Hammamet North?
Yasmine Hammamet suits families and anyone who wants evening life: large all-inclusive resorts, the marina and Carthage Land. Hammamet North is calmer and greener, close to the old medina.
Are Hammamet hotels all-inclusive?
Many of the large resorts offer all-inclusive; others offer half board or room only. The board basis is shown on every offer before you book.
Is Tunisia safe for a holiday in Hammamet?
Travel advice can change, so read your own government's latest official advice for Tunisia before you book and again before you travel (for example GOV.UK foreign travel advice in the UK, or the US State Department in the United States). Official advice can differ from one region to another, so check what it says about the area you plan to visit, and follow local guidance once there.
Do I need a visa for Tunisia?
Many nationalities (including UK, US, Algerian and most EU citizens) can visit Tunisia visa-free for short stays; check the current rules for your nationality with official sources before you travel.
