Where to stay in Sousse and Port El Kantaoui
Sousse, Tunisia's third-largest city, combines a long sandy beach, a medina listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a tourist strip lined with beachfront hotels.
Port El Kantaoui, just north of the city, was built around its marina and golf course. Its all-inclusive resorts with pools and water slides are especially popular with families.
The beachfront tourist zone between the two has hotels of every category, a short ride from the medina's souks, while small hotels in the city centre suit travellers who want to explore on foot.
Which Sousse hotel suits you?
Families: Port El Kantaoui and the tourist zone have the widest choice of all-inclusive resorts with aquaparks, children's pools and evening entertainment.
Couples and active travellers: Port El Kantaoui's marina restaurants, golf and boat outings, or simpler city-centre hotels near the medina, the ribat and the Great Mosque.
Quieter stays: Monastir, about 20 km south and linked by the Sahel Metro light railway, is a calmer alternative.
Facilities and the board basis are listed on each offer.
When to go and how to get to Sousse
Swimming season runs from June to September; spring and October are pleasant for sightseeing. Kairouan, another UNESCO site, is about an hour inland, and the Roman amphitheatre of El Jem about an hour to the south.
By air: Monastir airport is the closest, about 15 km away, and Enfidha–Hammamet airport is a little further north; both are busiest in summer. Tunis–Carthage, about two hours by road, has flights all year, including from Algiers.
By road from Algeria: from the eastern border posts, join the Tunis motorway and then the Sahel motorway to Sousse.
